Tribute to ross

The shining star of our family, the youngest of three boys and a dutiful son to our parents, Ross Gurreri was truly a great person. The brother to Domenic and Liborio Gurreri, Ross tragically passed away in 2007 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

It may not be quite accurate to call the death of someone who lived with cancer “unexpected,” but Ross’ death was just that for our family. He leaves behind a great legacy filled with his outgoing personality, big heart and commitment to the family.

It is hard to face each day without Ross. The shattered remnants of our hearts are somehow still beating, with holes so dark no light could ever fill them. In honour of Ross’ life and works, the Ross Gurreri Park was commissioned in 2010 in Kleinburg, and a courtyard was dedicated in his memory at St. Padre Pio Church.

The Gurreri family, ardent supporters of various charitable causes over the years, has continued its work in making a difference in the lives of many. The family is proud to culminate each year with an annual gala, dinner and dance held in honour of Friends of the Hospital for Sick Children. Since its inception, this yearly event has successfully raised thousands of dollars for cancer research and family services, a cause the family firmly believes in. It’s our goal to make every child happy, as there is no greater joy in life than to see the faces of happy kids. The Gurreri family is always looking for local businesses and residents to get involved in charitable projects and organizations in order to continue to impact the lives of those less fortunate.

In 2010, Domenic and his wife welcomed their son, who they named in memory of Ross Gurreri.
